Nashville TN breast augmentation patients often ask about gummy bear breast implants.
So what about gummy bear breast implants in Nashville TN? Interestingly, all silicone breast implants manufactured nowadays are, in fact, variations on the gummy bear implant concept. The good news is that some of the gummy bear implants available today are much softer than the original, “first-generation” variety available in the past to our Nashville TN breast implants patients.
Nashville board certified plastic surgeon Amy Ortega MD discusses gummy bear breast implants in this video.

Okay, so what about gummy bear implants?
People ask me about that all the time.
Actually, the modern silicone gel breast implant is in fact a version of the gummy bear implant. That’s often how it’s referred to; it’s also referred to as a semi-solid implant or a cross-linked silicone gel implant.
The reason it’s referred to that way is that this implant does not contain a runny, watery liquid substance like the old fashioned implants. Like the implants maybe your Mom or your grandma would have gotten. This implant is semi-solid all the way through; I could actually cut this implant in half and the two halves would sit there just like Jello gelatin.
Modern gummy bear implants can be softer than the original version of gummy bear implants
I like this implant better than the original gummy bear implants – what I might call the first generation gummy bear implants – because those ones were really as hard as gummy bear candy. That’s how they got the name. And anybody who’s ever eaten gummy bear candy knows that it’s kind of firm. It’s a little firmer than a natural breast. It’s certainly harder than I would want a natural breast to be.
And so I’m pleased that even gummy bear implants have evolved a little bit over the past few years and that we have a semi-solid, cross-linked silicone gel implant available which behaves much the same. Meaning it’s not liquid on the inside but feels nice and soft. So that we can have a semi-solid implant without having to have it quite as hard as gummy bear candy which I think is way too firm for breasts.
